Ruth Chia | Artist, Musician, & Spiritual Director

In my spiritual journey, I have experienced the healing combination of connecting to God through music, the arts, dance, and spiritual direction. 

I received a Master of Divinity degree with an emphasis in counseling from Westminster Theological Seminary, Glenside, PA. I am also a Spiritual Director (certified by Peacock Soul Care April 2024) and passionate about spiritual formation. A Spiritual Director is a spiritual companion who helps another discern the activity and movement of God in one's life.

I am currently pursuing a D.Min. in The Arts, Ministry, and Mission at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.

Let me share a bit of my story.

From 2022 to 2023, the Lord brought me through an intentional season of rest and healing after a ministry burn-out and mental breakdown end of 2021. Fall of 2022, I joined the first cohort of spiritual directors in training at Peacock Soul Care. In January 2023, my spiritual director helped me identify my dream to weave worship music, arts, and dance with one's spiritual journey and expression of intimacy with God. In April 2024, I graduated from Peacock Soul Care and became a spiritual director certified by the nation's first institute of spiritual direction and formation founded by an African American.

To my surprise by the end of May 2024, the Lord led me to apply for a D.Min. in The Arts, Ministry, and Mission, a brand new Doctor of Ministry program at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (Charlotte), and I was accepted in the summer into their first cohort. God is unfolding the vision over time of uniting the artists and releasing the arts for the transformation of my beloved city of Charlotte.
